Sharmin Soltanian

Sharmin Soltanian was born in 1989 in Sanandaj, in Eastern Kurdistan. She holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Sanandaj. She studied filmmaking at the Iranian Young Cinema Society and other educational institutions in Tehran. Alongside her professional work as a lawyer, she has worked for several years on legal equality within the family and against violence against women. She also hosts a legal podcast focusing on women’s rights and conducts workshops to raise women’s awareness of laws that affect their lives. At the same time, she works as a filmmaker and writer focusing on women’s issues. Through filmmaking, her aim is to portray the challenges faced by women and expose hidden forms of violence against women through cinema, one of the most influential and powerful media. Filmography of the Director Sharmin made her first experimental film, “Brzheng,” using a mobile phone. She subsequently made two more experimental works, “Trauma” and “Bokana.” “Shamaran” is considered Sharmin’s first professional film.
